As the Permit Technician you are responsible for submitting for and obtaining building permits from local jurisdictions. You will interface with in-house designers and city officials, working with them to prep and review all paperwork and drawings necessary to receive all required permits, and resolve objections related to Building, Zoning and Planning Departments as needed. This position may involve traveling across the region to submit permit paperwork and plans in person at the various jurisdictions.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Permit Coordinator and administrators on the permitting process
  • Record and understand technical corrections as they pertain to our design and issuing a permit
  • Work constructively and effectively with various jurisdictions
  • Process a high volume of permit applications and issuances daily
  • Fill out and submit applications as needed, in person, online, and in some cases, via mail/FedEx
  • Spend up to 100% in the office assisting the Permit Coordinator and Regional Permit and Inspection Manager to meet permitting SLAs.
  • Support the Installation teams by submitting and obtaining permits accurately and efficiently
  • Follow up with AHJs and other departments regularly to issue the permit as quickly as possible
  • Accurately calculate project valuations on permit applications
  • Acquire customer signatures on documents required for AHJ Approval
  • If a substantial volume of in person submissions/issuances are needed, spend large portions of the day driving to AHJs to perform project tasks.
  • When performing permitting functions, you are responsible to organize your time (and route, if applicable) efficiently, minimizing the overall cost to the business. Failure to do so repeatedly can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination
  • Maintain a clean and acceptable driving record
  • Consistently practice safe driving habits
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Certifications:
  • High School Graduate or GED
Experience:
  • Strong attention to detail while producing accurate and high-quality work
  • Experience interfacing with municipality electrical and building departments
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent office and computer skills with Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Handwriting must be clean and legible to others, particularly for the purpose of printed applications to local authorities
  • Able to learn and manage new software related to permitting and project management

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS (Employee is required to travel for business purposes, not including commute to and from work.)
If required to travel, must have a valid Driver's License/Insurance and the ability to drive a personal vehicle to different sites.
