Position Summary: As our Grants Program Specialist, you will report to our Policy Director and will be responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals and reports that support our organizational goals. This individual is responsible for managing all aspects of the grant development process including planning, budgeting, writing, submitting, tracking grants, and developing and managing relationships with potential funders. The successful candidate will write polished proposals that meet funder guidelines and criteria to earn funding to support our solar energy projects.  In some cases, this individual will be responsible for post-award tracking and project management. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Displaying adherence to the organization’s mission and the renewable energy landscape
  • Research grant opportunities from federal, state, and local governments as well as non-government agencies
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization
  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders
  • Managing the grant process is not limited to researching, writing, and submitting proposals 
  • Furnishing prospective funders with supporting documents
  • Maintaining records in hard copies and computer database
  • Track grant application periods, phases, and deadlines

Qualifications Requirements

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communication, Creative Writing, or a related field
  • 4+ years of grant writing experience

Special Skills, Training & Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
  • Familiarity with the residential solar and battery storage market
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals
  • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of funder auditing policies
  • Demonstrate the ability and poise to interact comfortably with senior levels of management

  • Must have demonstrated grants management skills, and knowledge of state and federal grant regulations, laws, and guidelines
  • Methodical and strategic thinking
  • Effective communication (verbal, listening, and written), attention to detail, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress
  • Strong people skills
  • Effective project management, organizational, stress, and time management skills
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, but also perform efficiently independently  
  • Must be highly organized and able to multitask on several projects at a time
  • Proven work experience in a similar role
